The remaining photos are out of my usual comfort zone. People asking my to photograph their Christmas lights, photo at their Christmas party or take a portrait for their Christmas card. This was shot a a tripod of course with a smaller aperture to get everything in focus. I was surprised it took 30 seconds. I have never really used BULB mode. I might should have increased the ISO to get proper exposure.. The exposure was raised in post.

on December 27, 2020Your choice of aperture has provided you with both the depth of field needed and also the starbursts from the xmas lights. As you hit 30 seconds you probably need to have long exposure noise reduction switched on in the camera and then apply additional noise reduction in post. Keeping the ISO low is preferred to raising ISO. Choosing very late twilight instead of several hours after sunset will help with overall exposure. Bit depth of the file will drop from 14 to 12 when you use Bulb mode so shadow quality is improved by trying to keep the exposure to 30 seconds if possible.
